Once again I will attempt to write my life down and all the odd occurances. Through it all I hope you can find my twisted sense of humor somewhat...humorous.

Someone allowed me to shoot a gun!

My grandfather is a legendary skeet and trap shooter. For those who don't know, shooting skeet and trap is a "sport" (I think hobby would be a better description) in which a person uses a shotgun to shoot clay pigeons that are hurled through the air at various speeds and angles. Nope, the clay pigeons look nothing like an actual pigeon. They are an 7" or 8" orange clay disk that looks something like a small orange frisbee. Anyway, my grandfather has been doing this since "before the war", and at 83 he is still on top of his game.

I was visiting my grandparents this weekend and he asked me for the first time if I would actually like to try shooting some with him. Since he had only ever let me watch before, I jumped at the opportunity. When I got there I thought, this looks relatively simple, the disk flies out-you blast it out of the sky. I can do this! I sucked. I couldn't believe that it would be that difficult. Apparently I didn't inherit any of my grandfathers shooting abilities. Oh well, it was pretty fun just being out there attempting to blow things up and making lots of noise in the process. I think the thing that I will remember most was the way that everyone there at the "gun club" revered my grandfather as a type of shooting guru. The people there were constantly asking him how they could improve on their shooting. They probably thought that I was a little "slow" or something, seeing that I wasn't shooting that well even though I am the grandson of the great one,"'Ol Smoothie". Yes that is what someone referred to him as. That’ right, one grown man called another grown man “'Ol Smoothie” and I was the only one to snicker. I don't think I will be invited back any time soon.
